Mojave Myriorama
A myriorama consists of a series of cards which features different scenes but are connect by a consistent horizon or background that allows the cards to be rearranged to create a variety of seamless panoramic images. My interest in myrioramas came from my research into stereoscopes for my project Retreat. Looking into stereoscopes led to discovering other varieties of esoteric “toys” or entertainment, including myrioramas.
This myriorama set consists of 15 cards illustrated with scenes inspired by my visits to various parts of the Mojave desert. The scenes focus on various plants that be seen growing in the Mojave desert, including Joshua Trees, Claret Cup Cactus, Teddy Bear Cholla, and more. The images were made using a combination of watercolor, ink, and digital illustration. The cards are accompanied by a brochure with details about myrioramas, the Mojave Desert, and all of the plants illustrated on the cards. Everything is housed in a paper case constructed with a drawer and a ribbon pull.
